5 Tips for Preparing your Garage for Fall
As we get ready to say goodbye to summer and hello to fall, it’s time to organize the garage and make sure it is ready for the cold months ahead. Garages are notorious for being a catch all for random items and are prone to weather damage. Here are five tips to ensure that your garage is ready for the fall.
1. Check your weather stripping
If you live in an area where you get rain, it’s especially important to check the weather stripping at the bottom of your garage door for cracked sections or gaps. If your weather stripping has any of these, it is probably time to get it replaced. Doing so will prevent water, outdoor debris and mice/rats from getting into your garage.
2. Garage door & opener
Check your garage door and opener for any problems it might have. A shaky/slow garage door might mean it is time for a new spring. Failure to open/lack of reliability could mean it is time for a new garage door opener. Any issues you might have can be resolved by contacting one of our dealers.
3. Insulation
If you use your garage for storage or a workshop year round, you may want to consider insulated garage door(s) and/or install insulation in the garage walls. Insulated garages help regulate the temperature so it isn’t as cold in the fall/winter months and will also help with your heating bill.
4. Organization & cleaning
Having an organized and clean garage can make life much easier in the coming months. Doing small things like putting away summer items and moving the fall/winter tools and holiday décor for easy access will make your garage more organized and functional.
5. Check your garage floor
If your floor has large cracks and holes it might be time to fill them. If water is able to freeze in those cracks it can cause more damage to the floor. Epoxy or polyurethane crack fillers are the preferred methods of repair because they become stronger than the concrete itself after they harden and cure.
Hopefully you will find these tips helpful and get to enjoy your organized, functional garage through the fall and winter months.
